Alyssa Sousa, LCAT

Hi, my name is Alyssa and I have been in the field for over 16 years. I am a licensed Creative Art Therapist (LCAT) providing therapy in New York State. I help people who are experiencing anxiety, depression, life transitions, trauma and more. Throughout the course of my career, I have worked extensively within hospitals setting in NYC, education, non-profits and in private practice. I provide individual as well as group therapy and I work with children, teens, young adults & adults. I am here to join you in the therapeutic process with support, authenticity, curiosity and humor. I work collaboratively with you in the therapeutic space by providing feedback, reflections and asking questions in an effort to promote growth, empowerment and healing. Through the use of art therapy, I also offer space for creative expression when words may be difficult to find.

As a creative arts therapist, I value the ability and opportunity to bring creative expression into the therapy space. In addition to verbal therapy, I believe working from a creative space can offer a new and rich language of self expression, as well as a deeper connection and understanding towards yourself and others in your life. No experience of background in art making is needed! I also use CBT and DBT interventions to increase insight and self awareness into patterns of thinking, feelings and behaving while also developing and exploring adaptive coping skills to better manage and reduce symptoms of stress, anxiety and depression.

My relationship with each of my clients is so valuable to me. My approach is aimed to create a space as well as a connection where you feel safe, supported and seen. My goal in our work together is to establish and grow a deeply trusting relationship where you can be vulnerable, feel accepted and at times challenged. I welcome and encourage feedback and collaboration in our work together.
